Crème de violette is a classic violet-flavored liqueur traditionally produced by macerating or distilling violet blossoms in neutral spirit or brandy, then sweetening with sugar. The result is a deeply colored indigo-to-lilac liqueur with an intensely floral, perfumed aroma and gentle sweetness, typically bottled at 16–22% ABV. It originated in Europe, especially France and Germany, and enjoyed popularity in pre-Prohibition cocktails before seeing a modern revival.

In cocktails, small amounts add a pastel hue and fragrant lift to gin-, citrus-, and maraschino-forward drinks like the Aviation and Blue Moon. It pairs well with dry, juniper-forward spirits and sparkling wine, but benefits from a light hand so its sugar and perfume don’t dominate. Store sealed in a cool, dark place; it is shelf-stable, though color and aromatics are best within a year of opening.
