Cubanelle pepper is a thin-walled, elongated sweet pepper variety of Capsicum annuum prized for its mild heat and quick-cooking nature. Typically 15–20 cm long with a curved shape, it starts pale green to yellow and matures to orange-red. Its heat level is generally mild (about 100–1,000 Scoville Heat Units), and the flesh is tender and juicy with a light, grassy sweetness.
Popular in Caribbean, Latin, and Italian-American cooking, cubanelles are often called “frying peppers” because they blister and soften rapidly in a hot pan. They’re excellent for quick sautés, roasting and peeling, stuffing, and slicing into sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. Their gentle flavor also works well in sofrito and other aromatic bases without overpowering other ingredients.
