Green Chartreuse is a historic French herbal liqueur created by Carthusian monks, famous for its vivid natural color and powerfully complex profile. Distilled and blended from a guarded recipe of around 130 botanicals, it is bottled at 55% ABV, giving it a uniquely intense, aromatic character with notes that can read as minty, piney, anise-like, floral, and peppery all at once.
In the glass, a small measure goes a long way. Green Chartreuse is a classic in cocktails such as the Last Word, Bijou, and Chartreuse Swizzle, and it can also accent desserts, sorbets, and coffee drinks. Its assertiveness means it can easily dominate, so it’s best used as an accent or split with other modifiers when you want vivid herbal depth without overwhelming the drink.
