Honey Bbq Wing Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions
1. Whisk together the ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dry mustard, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and kosher salt in a medium saucepan.
2. Set over medium heat and bring just to a simmer, stirring often to prevent scorching, 4–6 minutes.
3. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until glossy, thickened, and able to coat the back of a spoon, 10–15 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and let cool 5–10 minutes; the sauce will thicken further as it cools.
5. Toss with hot, cooked wings to coat, or cool completely and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
Honey BBQ wing sauce is a sweet, tangy, and lightly smoky glaze designed to cling to crisp, hot chicken wings. It balances the floral sweetness of honey with tomato richness, gentle vinegar tang, and a whisper of heat. The texture is thick and glossy so it coats evenly without dripping, delivering a satisfying caramelized sheen when it hits hot wings.
In the broader family of American barbecue sauces, this style leans toward the Kansas City tradition—tomato-forward, sweet, and crowd-pleasing—adapted for game-day wings. As Buffalo-style wings became a national staple, sweeter sauces emerged alongside hot sauces to suit a range of palates. Honey BBQ rose to prominence in restaurants and backyard cookouts alike, prized for its universal appeal and the way it complements crispy fried or baked wings.
