The Harvey Wallbanger is a sunny, crowd-pleasing highball that layers bright citrus with a whisper of vanilla-herbal sweetness. Fresh orange juice provides a juicy, tangy backbone, vodka brings clean structure, and a float of Galliano adds its signature golden hue and aromatic lift. Built over ice and served tall, it’s refreshing, lightly sweet, and visually striking with its layered look and classic orange-and-cherry garnish.

Born in mid-20th-century America, the drink is most often linked to California bar culture and the postwar boom in easygoing highballs. Popular lore credits bartender Donato “Duke” Antone with creating it in the early 1950s, while a later marketing push in the 1970s—complete with a cartoon mascot—propelled it into national fame. Whether a genuine barroom invention or a savvy promotional vehicle for Galliano, the Harvey Wallbanger became an emblem of the era and endures as a nostalgic classic.
