Agua De Papaya
Ingredients
- 4 cups papaya – peeled, seeded, cubed
- 4 cups water – cold
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
- 2 tbsp lime juice – fresh
- ice – for serving

Instructions

Add papaya (4 cups, peeled, seeded, cubed), 2 cups of the cold water, and granulated sugar to a blender; blend on high until very smooth, 30–45 seconds.
- 2.
Pour into a 2-quart pitcher and stir in the remaining 2 cups until evenly diluted. If you prefer a finer texture, pass the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into the pitcher.
- 3.
Stir in the lime juice and taste to balance sweetness and brightness. Chill until cold, 1–2 hours, or proceed to serve.
- 4.
Fill glasses with ice and pour the agua de papaya over the ice. Serve immediately.
Agua de papaya is a refreshing Mexican agua fresca made by blending ripe papaya with water, a touch of sugar, and a little lime for brightness. The result is silky, lightly sweet, and fragrant, highlighting the tropical aroma and buttery texture of papaya without heaviness. Served cold over ice, it’s a thirst-quencher that’s smooth and easy to sip, perfect alongside everyday meals or as a cooling stand-alone drink.
Across Mexico, aguas frescas are a staple of markets, street stalls, and home kitchens, where large glass vitroleros display colorful fruit blends. Papaya, common in coastal and tropical regions, has long featured in these preparations thanks to its natural sweetness and ready availability. While some versions evolve into milk-based licuados, the water-based agua de papaya remains a classic expression of the genre—simple, seasonal, and tied to the rhythm of daily eating.
